Watching MTV makes me wonder what happened to the world… what’s with music these days? Currently on MTV is “sound of the underground by girls aloud” ..  I can’t even understand .. I .. what … its like they’re saying different syllables that don’t really make sense .. OH and now another song by girls aloud.. is this going to go on for the rest of the day ? … oh lord help me .. oh now call me maybe is on .. please .. give me something .. a gun .. a table .. a cucumber .. anything to poke my eyes with .. Why do women need to succumb to the patriarchal paradigm by objectifying themselves like that?

Why am I even talking about that, it’s beside the point.

Doubt is the main topic for today’s blabber post. GOD I don’t understand how people even read what I write, but I do write it anyways. I’d like to think that the web is a constant listener, and no matter what or how much I write it’s willing to listen.

So, doubt.. In the literal sense:

 doubt [dout]

verb (used with object)

1. to be uncertain about; consider questionable or unlikely; hesitate to believe.

2. to distrust.

3. Archaic. to fear; be apprehensive about.

We often doubt friends, family, but we most likely doubt ourselves. I do it all the time and I often doubt what I’m capable of. That’s quite normal, to me at least, because that small room of doubt makes you humble. Meaning, people who are over confident don’t doubt themselves and think that there’s nothing they can’t do, which is great! Until they are faced with something they really can’t do. So when doubt exists it keeps you humble, it keeps you in line, knowing your limitations. There are those that tell you that there isn’t something that you can’t do, well they’re wrong. I’m not a pessimist I’m a realist. You can’t think that you are able to do EVERYTHING, but rather there is that one thing you can do, that one thing that you’re AMAZING at. For some people these talents are multiple, but then again no matter how much you can do, it will never be everything or anywhere close to it.

It’s not to say that you can’t do something if you set your mind to it, but those over the rainbow sunshine positivists (if that’s even a word) that use slogans that make me want to barf unicorns are just over their heads with fairytales.

The butter of this الزبدة as they say, is that doubt is good, but not too much of it of course. It keeps you down to earth, it make you realize what you can and what you can’t do. If you have doubt you can then assess yourself in a given situation and critically analyze where you stand and whether or not you can do a given task. So let me marco polo you from planet rainbows to planet earth. It’s good to dream but it’s better to know what you can do.

So don’t listen to Buddha when he says that “There is nothing more dreadful than the habit of doubt. Doubt separates people. It is a poison that disintegrates friendships and breaks up pleasant relations. It is a thorn that irritates and hurts; it is a sword that kills”. But listen to me the 21 year old that thinks she knows everything about the world.

Enjoy doubting yourselves,

I know I will.

Ok bye.

Shamma.
